These exotic plants not only sever the food web, but many have become invasive, outcompeting native species and degrading habitat in remaining natural areas. Selecting native plants for your landscaping is vital to preserving biodiversity, reduces the need for irrigation and fertilizer application, and ultimately preserves the health of our lagoon by preventing harmful stormwater runoff opportunities.
Protecting the lagoon begins in your yard! Keep Brevard Beautiful’s Lagoon-Friendly Lawns program recognizes residents who are helping to prevent algal blooms and fish kills by minimizing nutrient pollution and stormwater runoff from their yards.
